Week 554 – Established Beasts, Superb Versions And Rest For Mickey Pearce.

Here we are at Week 554!

Okay, this may be a bit strong, but if any fucker tries to pull the wool over our eyes with some sort of AI, all I can say is I hope that you drown in the mess of your own pustules exploding!!!

…That’s put me a wee bit off of custard!

We have had a few suspicious submissions that read weird. Now, if this is a weird person writing, that’s fair do’s but if it is, ‘I can’t put two sentences together, so I have an idea…’ then I’d say, put those two sentences together and let it roll.

The first time I noticed AI was when I tried to access a football game that FUCKING SKY had monopolised and it looked like shit – After half time, they were still playing in the same half, if you know what I mean. Oh and their legs moved funny.

Just a few weeks back, there was something on some social media shite that had Rory McIlroy ‘speaking’ about his treatment at the ‘Ryder Cup.’ – In the name of fuck! Us Scots are a bit unemotional (Apart from rage!) but our lovely Irish friends can’t hide their feelings, they wear their hearts on their sleeves. But we had wee Rory (Even with his new shit accent) sounding like a lying politician on Mogadon. (Is there any other type?) When you saw actual footage of his anger there was no comparison.

…Unless, I got it completely wrong!!!!

I hope my lovely friend Diane goes with me with this and realises, in a way I’m sticking up for, well, to be honest, I don’t know!!!

I am a Scotsman who will never consider themself british. I have no problems with anyone who does, but I reckon we should all have one nationality – Not four that we have had hammered into us since 1536, 1717 (Bad year especially!!) and 1927! Don’t be impressed folks I had to look those dates up!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, or whatever, trust me I’m not sure about the point that I’m making…I’ve read a few papers today and they have went with the same bi-line, they have stated that:

‘The royals may face the worst crisis since the abdication.’

This is regarding RandyandyPandy’!!!

In the name of fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eddie boy fell in love with Snow White (Snow White’s features were based on the Wallis wumin – I hate how so many folks refer to her as Mrs Simpson!!)

That means that the royals are facing a crisis with a FUCKING PAEDOPHILE that is in a par with a guy who stood up for his love with a consensual woman. In the name of fuck!!! Am I missing something here???

Go the memory of Eddie and Wallis and fuck Randyandypandy with a bullet that won’t kill him but will give him a slow death!!! (There you go Leila – I’ve said it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does he count or do I need to off Chick as well? Well sod him, he had no problem in letting his father off the leash to organise a wee crash in Paris!! And I wonder about that poor lady’s suicide. She received twelve million from the paedo, I’m sure that would have bought a bullet, but she was too slow!!)

That ‘Lost Prophet’ prick got his comeuppance this week, and we celebrate that, but we can’t mention the hope of that royal piece of scum getting his!!

This past week I’ve seen Scotland playing some terrible football and winning. That makes a change from them playing some terrible football and losing.

And also this week. R.I.P Diane Keaton. She looked like a very lovely and interesting lady. Because of her passing, I’ll post two clips. I know three versions of this song and every one is a belter. This one is a bit of fun and a fair tribute!!

(Also Patrick Murray died last week. He was an actor from ‘Only Fools And Horses’ Check out the series, there are so many absolute gems in it!!!)

…Oh and the end clip which I had originally thought of, sort of, ties in with this.

Okay onto this week’s stories.

We had four new folks and one returner. We hope that all our first timers have fun on the site and, more importantly, continue to send in more of their work.

As always, our initial comments follow.

First up with his first story was Christopher Miller. His story was called, ‘The Incinerator And The Sink Hole’

‘A bit of nastiness here.’

‘A bit of a living metaphor.’

‘Interesting.’

Next up was Haley DiRenzo with ‘More Disco Than Death.

‘Haley worked at this.’

‘How in the name of hell did ABBA become cool to anyone?’

‘There are many great elements to this.’

On Wednesday we had ‘Paranoia’ by MatiasTravieso-Diaz. This was a second story for Matias.

‘This is quite chilling.’

‘The twist at the end was well done.’

‘The writer acknowledged the fact that a ninety year old could be computer literate.’

The new folks kept coming. On Thursday we had ‘By Sevens’ by J.W. Goll.

‘That first sentence grabs!’

‘The tone of this was brilliant.’

‘There is a lot of honesty in this.’

And we finished off on Friday with ‘One Helluva Morning’ by John Doble.

‘There is some very funny dialogue.’

‘The ending really did work.’

‘This left me smiling.’

That’s us for another week.

Just keep doing what you are doing.

But writers, please say ‘Thanks!’ Your gran won’t be impressed if you don’t acknowledge those who have taken the time to comment.

Before some music, (The group is one that I don’t know much about. However, when I hear them, I realise that I should seek them out.) here are a few thoughts to ponder.

1. Nobody is ever completely useless, they can be used as a bad example.

2. If you ever want to make a website for orphans, don’t waste time on a Homepage.

3. Best way to use a stress-ball is to stick it to a brick and throw it at the arsehole that stressed you out.

I give you ‘People Who Died’ by ‘The Jim Carrol Band.’

  1. Hi Hugh

AI in writing is such a betrayal to the craft. No real writer would want to dilute their words with AI. And it’s a form of plagiarism, since the algorithms have scanned from the published works.

AI is bizarre. I hate the cheap special effects in movies. One good thing might be and there are probably many more… I saw how a nearly homeless old lady used Chat GPT to win a court case.

I’m not sure when I became a fan of Scotland. Hollywood probably helped with “Highlander” and “Braveheart.” As an American, I like the idea of Scotland beating the English. They were the org. revolutionaries.

My Dad used to talk about the Scots in WWII. Wearing the Kilts (I don’t think he meant they wore those in modern warfare. He said, “The Germans called them the ladies from hell!” Then he would laugh.

WWII was “his war” even though he served in Korea. Vietnam became my war– reading endlessly about it and watching all the movies.

I haven’t really followed the royal family since Princess Diana. The star power isn’t there anymore.

Diane K. was terrific! The first time I saw her was in “The Godfather.” The look of sexy disturbance in her eyes after she realizes that she has married into a crime family is haunting. I think “Looking for Mr. Goodbar,” might be her most profound role, that is a bizarre and great movie!

A lot of great and engaging topics here!

    1. Hi Christopher,

The problem with AI is by definition, the artificial in it is soulless!!

The Hollywood idea of Scotland can be hysterical. The two films that you mention are brilliant. With Braveheart there was a lot of HooHah from The Haggis Bashers about it not being accurate!! It’s a film!! It’s not a documentary and it should only be looked at as a bit of fictional entertainment. (Just finished watching the Ed Gein story on Netflix. It’s the same although I would say that anyone who knows nothing about him could be a bit confused regarding some of the references.)

I prefer my Scottish films to be a bit darker like, ‘Filth’, ‘Wedding Belles’ But the best that I’ve seen are actually TV plays by Peter McDougal even though they are a bit dated. (‘Just Another Saturday’, ‘The Elephants Graveyard’, ‘Just A Boys Game’ and ‘Down Amongst The Big Boys’)

Probably the most ridiculous I’ve seen is ‘Brigadoon’!!!!!

‘The Godfather’ is one of those films that you enjoy every time that you watch it.

Thanks so much my fine friend!!

AI narration is so easy to spot. Heard one that mentioned a Mexican fighter with the name Jesus (with the Spanish accent) call the guy “JEE-zus.” And other obvious mispronunciations a person would not say.

Isn’t perv payoff money actually public funds? No, can’t see a guy quitting a job to get married (which was all that really happened) being a horrible scandal. (Is it me but were all royal English men in the 1930’s the spitting image of Colin Clive?)

Diane Keaton had a great likeability that couldn’t have been faked. She was rarely seen not smiling in real life.

    Carroll song truly a classic!

    Great work again

    1. Hi Leila,

I wonder if Marg had the Christ-Child, would Homer have called him ‘Jebus’??

So many royal scandals and none of them cause any change!!!

Yep, she looked like a genuinely lovely and interesting lady!!

Once again, I say to myself that I’ll need to listen to more of that band!!!

      Thanks as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I totally agree, Hugh – Scottish, Welsh, Irish, all nationalities to be proud of and all countries we should be embarrased in front of (rugby not counted in that, of course). The AI thing makes me furious. Now we are hit in the face with it whereever we go and it has been shown over and over that it’s not reliable. I can see how there will be times when it can be useful but it needs to be much more well developed first in my opinion. The theft of written work is doubly damned as they actually used work from pirate sites so our books were stolen twice.

I love it when you rant. Thank you – dd

    1. Hi Diane,

It’s interesting that theft is interpreted as not so when huge companies are involved!!

Maybe I’m a techno-Phob and that may be true as I hate the music – Well apart for some of the mad German stuff!!!

Being serious even though this may be a conspiracy thing – How comfortable should we all be when we are being forced to live all of our lives through our phones?? How much privacy will we be left with????

The newspapers and the TV news give us all cause to rant!!

      Thanks so much!!

Many congratulations to you and Ian!!!!!

  4. Entertaining post and good roundup as always. I wonder if future AIs will piss off the current AIs as much as the current ones do us? Excellent videos to post for Diane Keaton and “people who died.” I read where Lesley Gore said You Don’t Own Me was her best song, but it’ll always be It’s My Party for Me.

    1. Hi David,

Technology doesn’t advance, it lessens. I don’t mean any other technology, I mean our humanity, individuality and creativity. For me that will be a very destructive way to go!

‘It’s My Party’ is superb! Lesley Gore was brilliant. Barbara Gaskin and Dave Stewart also did a wonderful version, sometime in the early 1980’s

      Thanks so much.

Hope all is well with you and yours my fine friend.

  5. Hugh,

Standing next to me @ the brewery recently was a dude who wrote a Sci-Fi piece. He had 2 ideas, spoke them into his phone, and pressed a button. Very proud of himself. A bit like self-publishing, but without the self.

And thanks for the music, too. I’ll watch the film tonight. — gerry

Good fiction writing is supposed to be about a “LIE” that Tells the Truth: so it’s hard to conceive of “WHY” so many mindless fools and conformist herd followers would “TRY” to pass off “writing” written by a robot (or an AI) as a product of their own (so-called) mind. These folks are boring, the worst sin of all, perhaps!
Humans are obviously headed toward some sort of singularity with the machine (unless, of course, civilization collapses); and, in so many ways, we are already there.
But, it’s also ALL in the way you use it.
In the right hands, computers and the internet are no more (nor less) dehumanizing than typewriters and light bulbs – or, for that matter, the printing press.
Also want to add that I, too, find it difficult to fathom how so many writers who are so GOOD at writing short stories are so BAD at writing comments – meaning, even to the point of writing no comments at all – not even thank you/s.
((There are always exceptions: sometimes for exceptional reasons…))
Thanks for your energetic Scottish exuberance!

    1. Hi Dale,

Brilliant line about a lie telling the truth!!

For me, inspiration for a work of fiction is all about observing and listening. To understand what you hear and see, you need to accept, not necessarily the situation or those involved, more that those folks are there, they have their outlook and their actions have evolved from that.

There is nothing artificial about that and there never can be.

I’m not sure energetic is a word that applies!!! I’m a bit too sceptical, cynical and beaten down for that!!!!!!

Thanks so much for your interest and kindness.

      All the very best.

  7. I thought about getting even with Hugh by talking about University of Oregon (American) football, or the NBA Portland Trailblazers new Chinese center, but nah I don’t care.

The USA is all one country at least today, but it doesn’t act like it. Donald Trump, or as I call him 47iq the Pedodent is equal to about ten British scandals, but we are so used to it we ignore it.

The irony of Lesley Gore is that she went where the girls are, not the guys. Both she and her female partner are now deceased. She really didn’t care if any guy ignored her.

    1. Hi Doug,

I always consider writing about the Oregon lacrosse team, or those Blazers who play cricket but I have no knowledge so if I did, you’d be in the very same boat!

Our monarchy’s scandals is for them to do. They do do as they wish. What really pisses me off is that we are supposed to bow or curtsy to them to show our respect. It’s hard to respect the family of a paedo.

Lesley Gore had the voice that she had and was with who she wanted to be with, for me, that is a successful life!!

Thanks as always my interesting friend.

All my best to both of you.

  8. Great week as always. I like your bit about AI – I don’t know if you caught it, but there was a great article I read recently of using AI to identify the path of the ball for any decisions needed and after a certain point it mistook the referee’s bald head for the ball and started following that instead (I believe it was a Scottish game actually).

Other than that, I once had the displeasure of meeting Prince Andrew and he was, and there is no other word, a prize twunt.

    1. Hi Paul,

The intrusion of technology in football has over-complicated and made some of the ideas a mockery. This may be a wee bit of an exaggeration, but having your elbow or your eyelash in front of the ball as you are falling in no way should make you offside!!!

I’ve stated since I was a kid, I’d never stand for an anthem or a royal…Unless I was in Northern Ireland!!!

Some people call him king, I call it the PAEDO’S brother!!! (There goes my knighthood once again!!!!_

Thanks as always my fine friend.

  9. AI sucks, it screws with reality and our perceptions and our trust. Diane Keaton: the opposite of AI. A creator of characters, bringing them to life from the writing in her own individual way.
