As anyone who reads the site knows, we publish a great deal of stuff by one or two-off writers. That is not a problem, but it sometimes results in excellent stories getting lost because the name of the author was only around for a short time.
So is the case with Loredano Carfano, who wowed the site twice in the late summer of 2021. Today we revisit one of his two extraordinary pieces, The Maker of Creches. It’s best to “open your eyes!” for this one. Remarkably dark and unsettling.

The refrain “Open your eyes!” is as scary a thing that I have ever read. So well built. It jumps off the screen.

Thanks, Leila.
Thanks for giving this story a chance three years ago, and thanks for choosing it as a rerun today.
Literally Stories was one of the first magazines to publish a piece of mine in English, and that’s something I’ll never forget.
All the very best, my friends.

You are welcome, Loredano
You sure have learned the hell out of English, better than most born speakers!
So glad to see the hits this one is getting!

Hi Loredano,
This is one of those that has stayed with me.
I’ll need to count out of the thousand of stories that I’ve read, how many that applies to…Low few dozen if that.
So, still brilliant and always memorable.
All the very best.

I think this is the nicest thing you can say to a writer.
Thank you so much, Hugh.

Lyrical and poetic, yet disturbing and visceral. A beautifully written, haunting piece.
