The saga of site co-founder Nik Eveleigh’s Storm Crow series remains to this day excellent reading. A sort of forlorn hero, whose humanity is commingled with humour and despair. And good old Stormcrow appeared in a Christmas tale seven years ago. Seven years is a magic number as far as time goes, and rest assured that readers new to Nik’s character will agree that the old crow has aged well.
We don’t hear from Nik nearly as much as we like, but we have asked him to share a few thoughts about this story.

Seven years? It feels impossible it was that long ago and yet that would explain why I’d forgotten some of the puns I shoe-horned into this one!
Writing this (the story I mean – this intro has been like pulling teeth) was a completely joyous experience and reading it back after too many years has made me a very happy chap. It’s a great personal reminder that writing can (and should) be a lot of fun, and that it’s perfectly acceptable to rename your characters as you go along just to squeeze in some more dad-jokes.
Thanks for giving this one another turn in the spotlight – Stormcrow himself in a rare moment of human kindness wishes you all a reasonable Christmas and a palatable New Year.

So happy to see this one on today. I believe that if a person tried to count all the little puns and sly connections between the two myths that there might always be ones that are missed.
Happy Christmas and Chris Must!

Not as happy as me Leila I can assure you 🙂
I was sitting around with some creative and talented folk last evening in the hope that some of their magic will rub off on me – they did poke at me a bit about why I haven’t written in so long so this is another reminder today that it’s quite a fun thing to do!
Love to all at LS Towers – speak soon

Hi Nik,
It’s great to see this back on the site.
It’s especially great to see you back on the site.
I think the two have a connection!!
I miss not having the out-put that I used to (I think I have two coming up – One that has been floating about my head for years – Just didn’t know how to get it across) but that is it, I’ve nothing else to work on so far.
But I suppose the thing that keeps my writing itch at bay is the fortnightly round-ups. (Do you still do your blog??)To be honest, I still haven’t a clue what exactly I’m going to type until I sit down to do it – That makes it interesting and worrying. I try, if, there is anything that happens throughout the week, especially within the site, to mention it if I think it will be of interest.
Anyhow, I think what I’m saying is if you want, just sit down in front of your key-board and see where it goes, don’t wait for an idea first!
Hope you and your lovely family are having a cracking time over the festivities!!
All my very best.
Hugh

I think you’re on to something Hugh – connections, the thrill of a blank unplanned screen…it’s all coming back to me now! Blog has also been mostly defunct for ages but I’ve been meaning to go through all the various incarnations of blogdom and strip out the actual stories that lurk there – if nothing else I’ll have a drabble anthology and a haiku chapbook!
Best to you and Gwen – hope it’s been a cracker of a season for you too(two)!

Nik – I’ve gone the other way and most things in my blog were published first. I can “explain” them, show alternate endings and such. Maysam Kandej (internet friend in Tehran) got me started, and also made an Iranian website – improbable Parsi name “Doug”.
