Another chance to satisfy the nosey parker in most of us. This week we have a cheeky look at a writer who has been with us since 2015 and has two pages of diverse and excellent stories. He is a delight to work with and without further ado I give you Mr Frederick K Foote:
***
What topic(s) would you not take on?
There are many subjects that I have not written about. I have not written about the Israeli punishment and exploitation of the Palestinians or the transgendered playing in women’s sports or foldable phones or pickleball. My subject matter usually bubbles up from my past or is an incursion by current events. I’m far from fearless. I have family members in politics, and I will not write about them or my more notorious relatives with a propensity for firearms and bladed weapons.
What in your opinion is the best line you’ve written?
I have written my best line hundreds of times, “The End.”
Would you write what you would consider shite for money?
Of course not! However, I can always justify taking the money out of the wrong hands (theirs) and putting it in the right hands (mine) that will use it exclusively for good works using my definition of good works.
Will you ever go Woke with your writing and use pronoun / non-descript characters
and explore sensitive issues in an understanding and sensitive way?
Absolutely! All my work is understanding and sensitive in a vulgar, wantonly salacious way.
Type something surprising.
Simplicity
Complexity breeds arrogance and self-centered reflection that re-enforce the bias that complex creatures are the apex predators.’
Viruses invisible to the naked eye slay that conceit with a wicked blade that cuts to the bone and unseats complexity from her throne crumbles economic kingdoms, disrupts domestic tranquility, soils every sanctuary darkens every future courtesy of “a nucleic acid molecule in a protein coat”
A simple creature indeed
Do you see something different in a mirror that others don’t when they look at you?
An aged, child-like creature rejecting adulthood, reason, progress, and innocence and reveling in imagination, sensation, and intimate celebrations of unknown destinations.
The future – Bleak or hopeful?
I caught a glimpse of the future as I looked up from my computer. Its hair was on fire, it was running into an ocean of plastic, and was the target of a gleeful band of young men shooting AR-15 rounds into The Future’s chest. Billions streamed the death of The Future, with half cheering on the firing squad and the other half screaming for stricter gun laws. The Future’s demise was abrupt but not unforeseen. The New York Times attempted to publish a 12-page obituary on The Future, but we all know there is no future for the press.
What would you like to like as you hate that you hate it?
The NFL is a brain-destroying, Black-exploiting, white supremacist money-making machine offering Sunday menus of mayhem and masterful physical performances.
Records? Tapes? Or CDs?
Injectable MP3s that lodge in the brain and leave you with a 200 GB jukebox with no earphones required.
Single malt or blend?
The experts say no amount of alcohol is good for your body. However, how can I watch the death of The Future and the brain-dead NFL without the benefit of the best single malt I can afford?

Fascinating, forthright and beautifully delivered. Frederick K Foote – visit his stories.

Thank you for your thoughtful observations and humor. It should disconcert everyone that our weapons evolve but we never do. We go at each other with bombs and guns for the same reasons we used rocks and clubs.

I don’t know if LS knows this, but Mr. Foote is two-timing you. While checking my publication in Freedom Fiction I find Mr. Foote’s work. I’ve been too busy napping to get to it, but I will.
I may be reading too much into his answers, but he may feel as I do that not being around this world in twenty years could be a good thing.

I think you’ll find Mr Foote’s work in a few places. So it is with good writers and we are always happy to see people succeed and have their work out there for the world to enjoy.

I hope that was recognized as attempted humo(u)r. How many stories does Mr. Foote have at LS? I have the impression that he and Mr. Sheehan are miles ahead of the pack.

I believe Fred is at 84—which is an immense total, enough for four full-sized collections.
Tom has 219. So combined they are about ten percent of the postings over the years.
My “u” often drop; but arranging today’s date as 10.12.23 as most of the world is smart enough to do, often causes me to reprint packing tags at work.

The list of things that the USA does differently than the rest of the world –
Time – 12 hours vs. 24 in horology (don’t get much chance to use that word)
Not metric
As you noted.
We drive on the correct side of the road though

Hi Fred,
It was a pleasure to read your Q&A!
You have a back-catalogue as fine as anyone on the site. The quality of your work is as outstanding as your perception.
Even after those first few stories, we all knew that we had a special talent in our midst!
All the very best my fine friend.
