Richard Yu was born in Hong Kong. He received a degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin. He began writing short stories later in life after being diagnosed with leukemia. His collection of short stories I Believe in Fortune Cookies (self-published) touches on the themes of physical and emotional struggle, and nostalgia for a homeland left behind. Richard now resides in Los Angeles with his wife.
