About the Author
O Chŏnghŭi (b. 1947) is the grand dame of contemporary Korean fiction, a writer whose works, produced over five decades, have drawn comparison with those of Alice Munro, Virginia Woolf, and Joyce Carol Oates. Few writers have more aptly portrayed the darkness and trauma of Korean women’s lives in the post-Korean War decades.

About the Translators
Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton are the translators of numerous volumes of Korean fiction, most recently the novel Togani by Gong Ji-young (2023). Their translations of Korean short fiction appear in journals such as The Massachusetts Review, Granta, Ploughshares, and The Southern Review. Bruce Fulton is the editor of The Penguin Book of Korean Short Stories (2023), the first volume of Korean literature among Penguin UK’s 3500-plus World Classics.
