Gerry Coleman was born into the Baby Boom world of working-class Brooklyn, New York.
He did his undergraduate work at Saint Peter’s College (Jersey City, NJ), received his master’s in English Education at Wagner College (Staten Island, NY), and did his doctoral work in Educational Psychology at Columbia University (New York, NY).
Gerry taught high school Reading for four years then Writing and various Literature courses for the next forty plus years at Union County College (Cranford, NJ.)
Upon retiring to Florida, he works organizing writing workshops for WordSmitten Media (St. Petersburg, Fl), helps run events for The Authors Guild (Florida Chapter), and consults with writers on their full-length book projects.
His short stories have appeared in The Pavan, Saint Peter’s University’s Art and Literary Mag (’22 and ’23), The Saratoga Scene Magazine (’20), and other publications. He won Best in The Short Story Category at “Writers In Paradise” Writers Conference (St. Petersburg ’23).
“Out of His League” is one of a collection of ten short stories set in Vietnam Era New York City, where friendships were determined by proximity and life colored by a draft lottery number.
